CERAMICS

In my final year at art school I started transferring my printmaking techniques to other materials such as concrete and wood. I aimed to bring colour, shape and pattern to a variety of architectural surfaces while also being sympathetic to the materials I was using. Moving from fabric printing to creating ceramic tiles was a natural progression. Despite the contrasting materials, I use paper stencilling to apply the designs to both the tiles and the wallhangings. My mum is a potter. I am inspired by her work, I learn from her and use her expertise.

My tiles are rolled and from terracotta clay before they are slip decorated using paper stencilling. Once fired, glaze and fired again the tiles are fully functioning and ready to be used. The ‘On the Brink’ collection consists of 4 different tiles. The combination of the 4 designs look great all together however there are dozens of patterns that can be created depending on the combination of tiles you choose. The tiles can also be bought on their own to be used as a coaster, trivet or for decoration.
